Publishing Patrons

A few of Florida’s public library programs that help patrons publish their work include:
Mosaic
Since 2007, the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative has published Teen Mosaic, an annual magazine, which features:
- Fiction
- Nonfiction
- Poetry
- Photography
- Art work
County residents in grades 6 – 12 may submit entries and a panel of judges selects the work to publish in that year’s issue.
- Printed issues are distributed during Teen Read Week, the third week of October.
- Digital issues are available online.
The Writers’ Page
The Lake County Library System publishes original, unpublished works by local residents on The Writer's Page. The collection includes:
- Entries are limited to 2500 words or less.
- All work must be family-appropriate.
- A publication committee selects work for inclusion.
- Works are published online as PDFs.
Zine Machine
Jacksonville Public Library holds meetings and workshops where kids from 8 - 13 years old create writing and art for their own zines.
- Zines are published quarterly in print.
- Issues of Zine Machine are added to JPL’s Zine Collection at the Main Library.
LVLC Student Writings
As part of the literacy program at Leroy Collins Leon County Public Library, students may submit short written works for that year’s publication.
- Tutoring services are provided by Literacy Volunteers of Leon County (LVLC), partly sponsored by the library and headquartered in its main branch.
- With each issue, LVLC throws a publication party for students, tutors and people on its mailing list.
- Printed copies are available:
- At the party
- In LVLC’s office
- At events
- At grant presentations
- In a library display for National Literacy Month (every September)
Page.Print.Post>Make a Book
At the Miami-Dade Public Library System’s main library, artists Juana Meneses and Leila Leder Kremer explored artists’ books through a five-month exhibition and a workshop.
