Winter Park Public Library bike checkout program

The Winter Park Public Library (WPPL) offers free bicycle checkouts to patrons, a service made possible through a grant from the Winter Park Health Foundation’s Healthy Central Florida Initiative.

WPPL owns six solo cruiser-style bikes and one tandem (built for two people) bike to loan, with helmets.

Patrons must be over 18 to check out a bike and can borrow up to two bikes per card. All riders must show a valid, government-issued photo ID at the time of checkout and sign a liability waiver.

This service dovetails with the library’s programming curriculum by offering bike tours of historical Winter Park with the Library Archivist.

The WPPL bikes have circulated over 1,000 times since the service launched!

Community feedback

Patrons have used the bikes for transportation to job interviews and relearning how to ride a bike.

Patrons also check out bikes to travel leisurely around town.

The library developed a partnership with the Alfond Inn, located next door, allowing tourists to use the bikes.
