Handle Properly
Handle important records as little as possible and always with clean hands. Do not use lotions or hand sanitizers before handling records.
Hold photographs by the edges, and don’t touch the emulsion surface of photographs or the surface of magnetic tapes. Clean, lint-free gloves are recommended for handling photographic items but might be less useful for paper records since they can make it more difficult to lift or turn pages.
Do not lean on important records or write on something placed on top of them.
Do not force books or tightly folded or rolled papers flat to read or copy them, as this can cause brittle paper to tear or book spines to break.
