Adult Literacy and ESOL

The Division supports adult literacy and ESOL programs at Florida libraries through resource sharing, collection development, statewide partnerships with government and nonprofit organizations, and by providing platforms for virtual discussions and peer-to-peer mentoring.

Express Reads

Express Reads are short, engaging books with reading levels accessible to adult literacy and ESOL learners.

Express Read titles are available to Florida libraries from the State Library through ILL. Interested library staff are invited to review some or all the titles and decide whether they would like to build a similar collection at their libraries to support or jumpstart an adult literacy program.

Express Reads Pilot Project

In this pilot project, libraries will receive a free set of Express Reads books and choose a method for sharing the books with their adult literacy learners and/or another select audience.

Feedback from the project will be used to plan for future materials, activities and trainings to support adult learning.

Florida Literacy Coalition is a statewide umbrella literacy organization that provides services and training to support providers of adult education, literacy and family literacy in Florida.

Adult Learning

For FY2024-25, the percentage of total costs for the Adult Learning Program financed with federal money is 67%; the federal dollar amount to be spent on the project is $92,112. This program does not include any non-governmental funding.
