The FLYP Side - Young Authors and the Library

So many big dreams start in the stacks of the local library! For some youth, those dreams come to life with the publishing of their first book before they even turn 18. Libraries and their staff are uniquely positioned to support these aspiring authors and other young creatives through providing accessible research sources, varied collections for inspiration, and the encouragement to explore.

Join this webinar for FLYP updates and to hear from Kate Casciato, a high school student from New York City, founder of Own Your Float, a student-led initiative focused on child water safety, and author of Captain Goggles Saves the Day! Kate will share about her journey from passing out water safety flyers outside of community centers to publishing her first children's book and the partnerships she is hoping to develop with Florida's libraries.

For FY2026-27, the percentage of total costs for the Florida Library Youth Program financed with federal money is 67%; the federal dollar amount to be spent on FLYP is $261,300. This program does not receive any non-governmental funding.
