31st Annual Capital City Quilt Show Opening in Tallahassee

Show opens August 17, 2012, in the Department of State’s Museum of Florida History

Tallahassee, Florida –

Secretary of State Ken Detzner today announced the 31st Annual Capital City Quilt Show will be opening on August 17, 2012, at the Florida Department of State’s Museum of Florida History in Tallahassee. The show, called Tomorrow’s Quilts Today, extends through November 4, 2012, and features more than 60 hand-crafted and machine-made quilts and wall hangings.

"The Capital City Quilt Show is one the Museum of Florida History’s most popular regional exhibits, drawing visitors annually from across the southeast," said Secretary Detzner. "Florida residents and visitors of all ages will be able to enjoy the quilts on display and appreciate the artistic talent it takes to create them."

Traditional components of the quilt show include the challenge quilts, a chance to win the opportunity quilt, which is awarded at the end of the exhibit, and a silent auction throughout the run of the show. The exhibit will include a historic quilt from the museum’s collection called the Double Wedding Ring, ca. 1935–1945.

Programs in conjunction with the quilt show are planned for September and October. Noted quilter Gloria Comstock will discuss “Quilts as Art” during the opening reception on August 16.

The 31st Annual Capital City Quilt Show is being hosted by the Museum of Florida History in partnership with Quilters Unlimited of Tallahassee.
