Art Exhibit by Photographer John Moran in the R.A. Gray Building

Springs Eternal: Florida’s Fragile Fountains of Youth

Secretary of State Ken Detzner is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition of artwork by Florida photographer John Moran. The exhibition is on display in the Gallery for Innovation and the Arts in the R.A. Gray Building through May 30, 2014.

"Photographer John Moran captures Florida’s natural resources in a way that makes the viewer appreciate them in a new light," said Secretary of State Ken Detzner. "His most recent work with Florida’s natural springs is a great example of the connection between the arts and environmental conservation, and I appreciate his contributions to this cause."

Springs Eternal: Florida’s Fragile Fountains of Youth features John Moran's 30-year project to photograph the springs of Florida. The exhibition features many striking pairs of then-and-now pictures depicting the reality that our springs, once a source of awe, are now a source of deep concern due to pollution, neglect and the groundwater demands of a thirsty state. In 2012, Moran joined forces with Dr. Lesley Gamble, creator of the Urban Aquifer, and designer Rick Kilby, author of Finding the Fountain of Youth, to initiate the Springs Eternal Project. Their collaboration has filled museum walls, wrapped city buses, and continues to develop creative forms of educational outreach inspiring Floridians to value, conserve and restore our precious waters. The exhibition is part of the Division of Cultural Affairs’ Capitol Complex Exhibition Program and can be seen in the Gallery for Innovation and the Arts located on the first floor of the R. A. Gray Building at 500 South Bronough Street. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 pm.
