Museum of Florida History Announces 33rd Annual Capital City Quilt Show “Starry Starry Night”
Secretary of State Ken Detzner invites the public to the 33rd Annual Capital City Quilt Show: Starry Starry Night, September 12 through October 19, at the Museum of Florida History. An opening reception is scheduled for September 11, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. The Museum hosts this exhibit in partnership with Quilters Unlimited of Tallahassee.
“This annual show presents a variety of excellent fiber arts,” said Secretary of State Ken Detzner. “The Museum has partnered with Quilters Unlimited for more than 30 years, and the pieces on display often astound me with their artistry and intricacy. I encourage residents and visitors to enjoy this great assortment of works.”
Traditional components of the quilt show include awards selected by the members of Quilters Unlimited of Tallahassee, a Visitor’s Choice Award selected by public vote, and a silent auction that funds charitable initiatives of the guild. Quilters are on hand to answer questions and provide more information about quilting and the examples on display. A scavenger hunt and drawing activity are available for young visitors.
The featured Opportunity Quilt is Stars in the Midnight Garden. Linda O'Sullivan and members of the Friday Frayed Edges Sit and Stitch group designed the quilt to represent the theme of this year’s show, “Starry, Starry Night.” The work features sparkling midnight stars accenting the night sky above a bed of white flowers. By making a small contribution to Quilters Unlimited visitors can qualify for a chance to win the opportunity quilt.

The quilts are on display at the Museum of Florida History until October 19. Admission to the show is free, and free parking is available in a garage adjacent to the R. A. Gray Building.
