Secretary Detzner Commends Senator Simpson and Representative Diaz for filing Business Filing Fee Reduction Bills

Tallahassee, Florida –

Secretary of State Ken Detzner commends Senator Wilton Simpson (R-Trilby) and Representative Jose Felix Diaz (R-Miami) for filing Business Filing Fee Reduction bills that standardize filing fees paid by over 1.6 million small business owners from year to year. Senate Bill 776 and House Bill 767 reduce the annual cost small business owners pay to the state.

"Lowering filing fees will reduce the cost of doing business in Florida, and filing with the Department of State’s Division of Corporations is the first step anyone takes when starting or staying in business in our great state," said Secretary of State Ken Detzner. "I thank Governor Scott for his leadership in this effort and I look forward to working with Senator Simpson and Representative Diaz to move these bills through the legislative process so that the benefits can be felt by Florida families."

Senate Bill 776 and House Bill 767 support the Governor Scott’s $33.3 million dollar tax cut to corporate filing fees as part of the "It’s Your Money Tax Cut Budget." This legislation reduces over 50 different corporate filing fees paid annually by active businesses to the Florida Department of State’s Division of Corporations.  This change standardizes the annual report fee for certain business entity types. Additionally, the legislation addresses the late fee associated with late filings taking into account the number of months the annual report filing is delivered late. The bills also lower the annual report fee paid by corporations for profit, limited liability companies, and limited partnerships.
