Celebrate the Holidays with the Museum of Florida History, the Knott House Museum, and Mission San Luis

The Museum of Florida History, the Knott House Museum and Mission San Luis in Tallahassee offer fun and educational experiences for families during the holidays.

“As we gear up for another busy holiday season full of family, food, and cheer, I encourage residents and visitors alike to visit the Museum of Florida History, the Knott House Museum, and Mission San Luis,” said Secretary of State Ken Detzner. “These historical museums are a great respite from the holiday chores and offer a perfect outing for families.”

The Museum of Florida History has completed a new permanent exhibit, Forever Changed: La Florida, 1513–1821. The first portion of the exhibit opened in 2012, and covered the period 1513–1565. This final installation covers the period 1565–1821, beginning with the establishment of a Spanish colony at St. Augustine and ending with Florida’s adoption as a United States territory. Enjoy breakfast or lunch at the Egg Express Cafe and shop for the holidays in Florida’s History Shop.

Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Sunday and holidays, noon to 4:30 p.m. Closed December 24–25. Admission and parking are free! For more information visit


Knott House Museum

The Knott House Museum is trimmed for the holidays through December, and visitors can step back in time into this lovely historic home, restored to its 1928 splendor.

The home is open for tours Wednesday through Friday, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, 10:00 to 3:00 p.m. Tours are given every hour, on the hour. Closed December 24–25. Admission is free and open to the public, but there is a small charge for group tours. Please call 850.922.2459 for more information.


Mission San Luis

Mission San Luis, Florida’s Apalachee-Spanish Living History Museum, was the western capital of Spanish Florida from 1656 to 1704. The Mission, now a National Historic Landmark, brings the 1700s to life with living history interpreters in period dress, reconstructed period buildings, exhibits, and archaeological research.

Mission San Luis is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Closed on December 24–25 and January 1. For more information call 850.245.6406 or visit
