Clearwater Country Club Featured as Florida Historic Golf Trail Course of the Month

Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced today that the Clearwater Country Club has been chosen as the featured course on the Florida Historic Golf Trail for the month of May. The Clearwater Country Club is located in the city of Clearwater in Pinellas County.

“We are pleased that Clearwater Country Club is a partner of the Florida Historic Golf Trail,” said Secretary of State Ken Detzner. “And we extend our congratulations to the City of Clearwater as it celebrates its 100th anniversary this month.”

The golf course was originally designed by British golf course architect Herbert Strong. In 1921, after a year of construction, nine holes were officially opened. Mrs. Daniel Simonds, who contributed money for the original clubhouse, hit the first shot, a nice drive down the fairway beyond the first bunker. Two years later, the completed 18-hole golf course was opened and ready for play. In 1940, golf architect Perry Maxwell and his son Press Maxwell reworked a number of the greens and holes.

The 18-hole, par-72 golf course at Clearwater Country Club, features four sets of tees playing from 5,300 to 6,200 yards that provide a test for golfers of any skill level. The course features Bermuda greens, tees, and fairways. Full practice facilities are available, as well as a fully stocked pro shop and restaurant.
