Secretary Detzner Recognizes Florida’s Libraries in Observance of National Library Week

TALLAHASSEE –

In observance of National Library Week, which is sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country from April 12-18, Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner issued the following statement:

“National Library Week is a great opportunity to highlight and celebrate Florida’s own libraries, and hardworking library staff, serving communities throughout the state.

 “In addition to providing an abundance of literature, research and academic resources to Floridians, our libraries are important hubs of innovation serving their communities’ unique needs, providing support for education, workforce recovery and economic development.”

In Fiscal Year 2014, Florida’s public libraries were open more than 1.2 million hours serving more than 75 million library visitors in 553 different locations across the state. Public library users checked out more than 116 million items and had more than 22 million research questions answered.
