The Museum of Florida History Hosts the 37th Annual Capital City Quilt Show Autumn Reverie

Secretary of State Laurel M. Lee invites the public to attend the opening reception of the 37th Annual Capital City Quilt Show, Autumn Reverie, tomorrow September 26, 2019 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Museum of Florida History. The Museum hosts the exhibit, which will be on display September 27 through November 3, in partnership with Quilters Unlimited of Tallahassee.

“For 37 years, the Museum of Florida History has partnered with Quilters Unlimited of Tallahassee to bring the public a wonderful exhibit filled with striking artistry, elaborate needlework and fascinating stories,” said Secretary Lee. “This year’s exhibit celebrates the sights and colors of the autumn season. I encourage residents and visitors to stop by the Museum of Florida History and enjoy this great exhibit.”

Traditional components of the quilt show include awards selected by the members of Quilters Unlimited of Tallahassee, a Visitor’s Choice Award selected by the public and a silent auction that funds charitable initiatives of the guild. Quilters are on hand to answer questions and provide more information about quilting and the examples on display. A scavenger hunt, interactive stitch boards, and magnetic quilt table are available for young visitors.

Each year the exhibit highlights the Opportunity Quilt, which is designed and constructed by members of the guild. The featured 2019 Opportunity Quilt is Autumn Reverie. Marianne Clower of The Quilt Peddler and members of Quilters Unlimited worked together to create the quilt to represent the theme of this year’s show. The quilt design is from the Lakeshore Hosta quilt pattern by Judy and Brad Niemeyer. By making a small contribution to Quilters Unlimited, visitors can qualify for a chance to win the Opportunity Quilt.

“Quilter’s Unlimited is once again proud to partner with the Museum of Florida History and Florida Department of State to exhibit another delightful quilt show to the residents and visitors of Florida,” said Quilt Show Chair Karen Kunz. “Working together with the Museum is a yearly treat which allows us to share the beauty and art of quilting with everyone.”

The quilts are on display at the Museum of Florida History from September 27 through November 3. The quilts are also online at pinterest.com/museumflhistory. Admission to the exhibit is free and free parking is available in the garage adjacent to the R. A. Gray Building.
