PRESS RELEASE: Florida Department of State and Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd Commend Governor Ron DeSantis’ Focus on Fiscal Responsibility Budget for Keeping Elections Secure, Expanding Filing Options for Businesses
TALLAHASSEE, FLA. –
Today, Florida Department of State and Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd commended Governor Ron DeSantis’ Focus on Fiscal Responsibility Budget for cementing Florida as a national leader in election administration, maintaining its business-friendly reputation and preserving Florida’s heritage for future generations.
Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd said, “Governor DeSantis is leading the way with investments that directly benefit Floridians including enhanced election security and efficiency. His budget also supports Florida businesses with funding to modernize the Florida Corporate Registry, Sunbiz. This project provides additional features for business users while safeguarding their information. I am also pleased by the Governor’s continued support of historic preservation. These investments solidify Florida’s position as the best state in the nation to prosper and exercise our freedoms.”
Governor DeSantis’ proposed budget includes:
- $2.5 million to modernize Florida’s Voter Registration System, increasing data security and integrity. Additionally, with an eye toward continuous improvement, overall agency IT security enhancements will provide best-in-class, industry-leading tools for network security.
- $8.8 million to replace Florida’s Sunbiz system, enhance the business verification system and commercial registry solution. These upgrades will expand online filing options for businesses and make the system more secure and efficient. Governor DeSantis also provides money to continue call center services providing additional support to the business community.
- $8.5 million to modernize Florida’s Conservation Lab creating a state-of-the-art facility preserving Florida’s rich historical and cultural artifacts for years to come. Governor DeSantis’ Focus on Fiscal Responsibility Budget also provides funding for renovations at a historic property in Tallahassee.
- $27 million for cultural and museum grants, requiring all awarded grants to be for activities and programs that are family friendly and suitable for all age groups. The 2025-26 funding also prioritizes funding for projects that support America 250 and the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
