When publications, films or similar materials are developed, directly or indirectly, from a program, project or activity supported with grant funds, you (and your subgrantees. if applicable) must grant the Department of State an irrevocable, royalty-free, nontransferable, nonexclusive right and license to reproduce or otherwise use, to make derivative works from, and to display and distribute any copyrighted material developed for any state governmental purpose.
You may copyright any work that is subject to copyright and was developed under an award or for which ownership was purchased. However, for federal government purchases, a royalty-free, worldwide, nonexclusive and irrevocable right to reproduce, publish or otherwise use the work and authorize others to reproduce, public or otherwise use the work is reserved.
All work products resulting from IMLS funding should be distributed free or at cost unless you have been given written approval for another arrangement. It is expected that you will ensure that final peer-reviewed manuscripts resulting from research conducted under an award and made available in a manner that permits the public to access, read, download and analyze the work without charge.
