As a subgrantee receiving IMLS funding, I am required to create a funding statement acknowledging federal support.
How should I word the statement, and where do I find the data I need to complete it?
Figure out which fiscal year is impacted by the federal funds, and then determine:
- The percentage and dollar amount of your project or program financed with federal government funds (LSTA grant funds).
- The percentage and dollar amount of your project or program financed with state government money (if used as matching funds).
- The percentage and dollar amount of your project or program financed with local government money (if used as matching funds).
- The percentage and dollar amount of your project or program financed with other non-governmental money (if used as matching funds).
- The sum of all these should be equal to the total budget of the project that is incorporated into the grant agreement (or revised grant agreement).
Example wording
Here is an example of a fully developed required funding statement (Acknowledgement of Federal Support):
For FY2020-21, 40% of the total costs for the Loss of Memory program ($40,000) is supported by federal money; 20% of this program ($20,000) is supported by state money; 20% of this program ($20,000) is supported by local money; 20% of this program ($20,000) is supported by other money. The total budget of the project is $100,000.
Notes on cash match
The figures you report in your Acknowledgement of Federal Support (Required Funding Statement) will vary according to your circumstances and the presence and amount of cash match.
Projects of less than $10,000 do not require the usual one-third cash match, nor do projects located in designated Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) areas . However, grantees may provide cash match for projects, even if a match is not specifically required in the grant guidelines.
