Spanish Influence in Florida
How Florida’s two periods under Spanish rule helped to shape the state
It been said that during its long history Florida has flown the flags of five nations. One of those nations was Spain, and it’s flag actually flew over Florida twice. The first Spanish period (1565-1763) and the Second Spanish Period (1783-1821).
