Tallahassee, Florida –
The Florida Department of State’s Museum of Florida History will be hosting the 30th annual Children’s Day tomorrow, Saturday, January 26, 2013. One of the museum's most popular events, Children's Day provides an opportunity for parents and youth to enjoy hands-on activities, exhibits, educational experiences and entertainment.
This year’s theme, "Growing Up with Your Museum," celebrates the 30th year of Children’s Day. Admission and parking are free, although a small fee is charged for selected crafts. Florida’s History Shop is open all day for shoppers, and The Egg Express is open for lunch and snacks. Children’s Day starts at 11:00 a.m. and concludes at 4:00 p.m.
Visitors of all ages will be captivated by the creative atmosphere that includes jugglers, clowns, reenactors, dancers and musicians. Performers include the African Caribbean Dance Theatre, Tallahassee Fiddlers, World Ballet, Young Actors Theatre and others. Community groups include the Tallahassee Museum, Pilot Club of Tallahassee, Seminole Remote Control Club, National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, the Department of State’s own Viva Florida 500, and other organizations providing resource materials.
Crafts and activities include face painting, temporary tattoos, copper breastplate making, photo ops, scarf-dying, and more. Upon leaving the event, children will receive a free anniversary gift.
