Mission San Luis Muster Presents 17th Century Soldier’s Life
Tallahassee –
On Saturday, March 12, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mission San Luis invites visitors and residents to witness colorful pageantry along with musket and cannon fire at the 17th Century Military Muster. Discover the 17th century world of Spanish soldiers and Apalachee warriors at this annual special event.
“Step back in time to learn about the life and tasks of soldiers at Spanish Florida’s western capital,” said Secretary of State Ken Detzner. “Come out to Mission San Luis’ fort, Castillo de San Luis, for historic weapon demonstrations and experience the scent of blackpowder after the blasts.”
Guests can enjoy participating in activities such as archery, “school-the-soldier” drills, make-&-take crafts for children, and making notes to send to modern soldiers. There will be living history demonstrations of blacksmithing, period cooking, and more.

Mission San Luis, Florida’s Apalachee-Spanish Living History Museum, was the western capital of Spanish Florida from 1656 to 1704. The Mission, now a National Historic Landmark, brings the1700s to life with living history interpreters in period dress, reconstructed period buildings, exhibits, and archaeological research.
