Qualifying Period Approaching

Qualifying Period for U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, State Senator, State Representative, County Offices, and Special Districts is Noon, June 20 – Noon, June 24

Tallahassee –

Secretary of State Ken Detzner released the following statement regarding the upcoming qualifying period for U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, State Senator, State Representative, County Offices, and Special Districts from Noon, June 20 – Noon, June 24. According to Florida law (Section 99.061(8), F.S.), candidates are allowed to submit qualifying papers during a 14-day period in advance of the official start of the qualifying period. The 14-day pre-qualifying holding period begins today, June 6, 2016.  State court orders finalized new boundaries for congressional and Florida Senate districts last December.  Those court orders and the new boundaries are available at www.flsenate.gov/session/redistricting.

“I encourage candidates who plan on running for office to take advantage of the 14-day prequalifying holding period or to file qualifying papers as early as possible within the official filing period,” said Secretary of State Ken Detzner. “Information about qualifying is readily available on the Division of Elections website and the Division’s staff is here to help.”

During the qualifying period, the Division of Elections website will be updated as qualifying paperwork is processed. Final information for offices that qualify with the Division (including U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, State Senator, and State Representative) should be available on the Division’s website by the evening of Friday, June 24, 2016.County-level offices submit their qualifying paperwork at county level.For more information on qualifying, click here.
