Artist's Statement
Cuban born artist Luis Núñez has lived in Florida since 1960. After a career in electrical engineering, his love for painting led him to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Art. Though from his studio in Homestead, he welcomes the opportunity to paint any landscape anywhere in the world, his heart truly responds to the South Florida landscape. His paintings of the Everglades, Biscayne Bay, Big Cypress and the Florida Keys capture the light, colors and mood of this beautiful and unique part of the world.
Mr. Núñez has participated in numerous juried exhibitions in the United States. His works are displayed in private collections throughout the US, Europe, Central America and Australia as well as prominent Florida museum collections.
Mr. Nunez describes how he came to create Terra’s Key:
The idea to do this painting came to me while having lunch in a restaurant in Islamorada celebrating my granddaughter's 10th birthday. We both noticed the view of the picturesque little island from the restaurant's patio. Then Megan, my granddaughter, suggested: "Grandpa, wouldn't that make a really pretty picture?" I didn't waste any time to take a pen and a paper napkin and draw a quick preliminary sketch. That may sound a bit corny but that is the way it happened.
