Amy Evans

U.S. Coast Guard, 1974 – 1978

Amy Evans is a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, musician, and community leader whose lifelong dedication to service and education reflects her deep sense of patriotism. Born into an academic and artistic family, Evans began studying piano and oboe as a child, performing with the Boston Youth Symphony before enlisting in the Coast Guard in 1974—the first year women were allowed to serve on active duty. Initially selected as an oboist for the Coast Guard Band, she went on to train as a yeoman and was later stationed at the Coast Guard Academy, where she worked in administration and supported high-level fundraising and alumni efforts. Following her military service, Evans built a successful civilian career with DuPont and other organizations, applying the discipline, adaptability, and leadership she developed in uniform. A disabled veteran of the Vietnam era, she remains active in veterans’ organizations in The Villages, Florida, where she represents the Coast Guard in honor guard ceremonies and mentors younger generations. Music, faith, and civic engagement continue to guide her life’s work as she promotes patriotism and education through community programs that combine history, music, and public service
