The Division is responsible for preserving and promoting Florida’s historical, archaeological and folk culture resources.
On April 17, 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law CS/CS/SB 1264 (Chapter 2024-102, Laws of Florida) relating to the History of Communism. The bill requires the Department of State, in collaboration with the Department of Education, to provide a recommendation to the Legislature, no later than December 1, 2024, on the creation of a museum of the history of Communism.
