Though she was born in Tampa, Sandra “Sandy” DeArmas Lloyd has considered Volusia County to be her home all her life. She is a third-generation Floridian who has devoted her artwork to her native state. Best known her large photorealistic and atmospheric landscapes of old Florida, Lloyd attended Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University, where she earned her BFA degree, and Stetson University, studying with the late Fred Messersmith. She then returned to Daytona Beach and shared her talents teaching visual art with the Volusia County School District. Lloyd is a member of the American Watercolor Society and a past president of the Florida Watercolor Society. When not seeking inspiration in the creeks, rivers, lagoons, swamps and beaches of northeast Florida, Lloyd has quietly and humbly plied her passion for painting as an artist in residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts and at the HUB on Canal in New Smyrna Beach. Her artwork may be found in dozens of public and private collections. For more than eight decades, Sandra Lloyd has served as a champion for advancement of the arts in Volusia County and across Florida.
